Abstract
In the past hundreds of millions of years, from algae to land plants, the plant cell walls have developed into a highly complex structure that is essential for plant growth and survival. As the major components of plant biomass, plant cell walls are the largest renewable resource for biofuel production. Carbohydrate-Active Enzymes (CAZymes) are the most important players in plant cell walls synthesis and degradation. In this talk, I will present our lab`s research on developing bioinformatics tools that assist the study of CAZymes, and on bioinformatics mining genome and transcriptome data to understand how plant cell walls have evolved.
