The development of chemical reactions for the detection of epigenetic modifications in a cell is a chemically and biologically challenging research subject. I will talk about (1) a 5-methylcytosine imaging through the formation of 5-methylcytosine-osmium complexes; (2) new chemical reactions for detection of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine; (3) exciton-controlled hybridization-sensitive fluorescent oligonucleotide probes for RNA imaging; (4) photoaffinity-labeled RNA for trapping FTO demethylase; and (5) chemical synthesis of modified histone H2A.
