Abstract: The unfolded protein response (UPR) is an evolutionarily conserved intracellular signaling pathway triggered when unfolded proteins accumulate in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to cause “ER stress”. While the UPR initially serves to maintain ER homeostasis, aberrant UPR contributes to cell degenerative disorders and the inappropriate survival of secretory cell tumors. I will talk about our study on how the UPR leads to programmed cell death, and our attempts at harnessing the UPR to combat related diseases.
